Have you ever heard a word “Self-Esteem”? This kind of idea is now likely to be promoted widely around Thailand. Self-esteem is a term used in psychology to reflect a person's overall evaluation or appraisal of his or her own worth. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Self-esteem) Person needs to know who he/she is, realizes what he/she is doing for. He/She is likely to be responsible for his/her reaction, being proud of what he/she has done. The awareness tends to be taught by the first environment so, the family possibly becomes a big influence, stimulates this kind of self-actualized towards their children. It may depend on how the family encourages their children’s confidences, let them learn how to improve the problem by themselves. Then, their self-image is gradually going to be created. In contrast, a low self-esteem people may use a self-defense, protecting them from getting a tension. It may release them being far away from the truth. That’s not a good idea for nurturing our Thai children.

I don’t think if we are going to block our generation’s ideas. The creativeness won’t be widely spreading.

  1. It means a lot to know and respect yourself. No one can understand you better than yourself. And when you understand yourself, You can see what you want without any hesitation.

I think, it is a good way for children to understand their self while they are growing. So, they can learn and adapt themselves to the world. And ready to be good adults in the future.

  2. I think self-esteem or self-respect can be created since a person is young. Family plays very important role to teach appropriate believe to their children. Then, let them gradually develop their beliefs by themselves with parent’s guide. The way children perceive themselves is very important because it could result in their action showing how they relate themselves to the world. I believe that a person will live happily if he/she has positive self-esteem. Besides, I think teaching children to live their lives in balance as the Buddha teaching, The Middle Way, is also interesting because the world today is filled with chaos.

  3. I think that having a high self-esteem is better than having a low self-esteem. High self-esteem encourages us to continue living in the society confidently, and confidence makes us feel secure. However, being an over high self-esteemed person can bring some troubles too; for example, s/he may be disliked or criticized from the others. Therefore, we should learn to have a high self-esteem but not too much.
